I offer semi permanent makeup in Leigh, Greater Manchester. I work from a clean, private studio and serve clients across the Wigan Borough and the surrounding areas.
Semi-permanent makeup (SPMU) is a cosmetic procedure that uses specialised pigments implanted into the upper layers of the skin to create the appearance of makeup. Unlike a traditional tattoo, which goes much deeper into the skin, SPMU sits more superficially — which is why the results fade gradually over time rather than lasting forever.
Microblading uses a fine manual blade to create individual hair strokes, giving a natural, feathery look. Machine brows use a small device to deposit pigment in a stippled pattern, creating a soft, powdered finish — similar to the look of filled-in brows. Machine brows tend to suit a wider range of skin types and generally last a little longer. We can discuss which technique would suit your skin and aesthetic goals at consultation.
Results typically last between one and three years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow the aftercare advice. Oilier skin types and those who spend a lot of time in the sun tend to fade faster. A maintenance top-up every 12–18 months is recommended to keep results looking their best.
Most clients find it manageable. Brow treatments are usually described as a light scratching sensation; lip blush can feel slightly more sensitive given the delicacy of the area.
SPMU is suitable for most adults. However, there are certain contraindications that mean treatment may not be appropriate — including pregnancy or breastfeeding, active skin conditions in the treatment area (such as eczema or psoriasis), use of blood-thinning medications, Roaccutane use (or within the last 12 months), and certain autoimmune conditions. A full consultation form is completed before any treatment to ensure it's safe for you.
Generally yes, though timing matters. It's recommended to wait at least two weeks after any injectable treatments before having SPMU, and vice versa. Please mention any recent aesthetic treatments when booking so we can time your appointment appropriately.
It depends on the colour, depth, and saturation of the existing pigment. Please send a photo before booking so I can assess whether it's something I can work with, or whether removal/fading would be needed first. I won't book a treatment I can't deliver a good result with.
In the 24 hours before your appointment, please avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) where possible, as these can increase bleeding and affect how well the pigment is retained. Come with your brows or lips as you'd normally wear them — this helps with shape discussion — but clean skin is needed before the procedure begins, so I'll take care of that.
Healing typically takes 4–6 weeks in full, though the surface heals within 7–10 days. In the first few days, the treated area may appear darker or more intense than expected — this is completely normal and part of the process. As the skin heals, the colour will soften and settle. There is often a brief stage where the brows or lips appear to have faded significantly; they will come back once fully healed.
For the first 10–14 days: avoid getting the area wet (including sweating heavily), applying makeup over the treated area, picking or peeling any flaking skin, direct sun exposure, and swimming or saunas. Full aftercare instructions are provided after every appointment.
A top-up (usually 6–8 weeks after the initial treatment) is a standard and expected part of the process. No two people heal exactly the same way, and some areas may retain pigment differently. The top-up is where we perfect the shape, fill any gaps, and ensure you're happy with the end result. It's included in the treatment price.
Skin type is the biggest factor — oilier skin tends to break down pigment more quickly. Sun exposure, use of active skincare ingredients (such as retinol or AHAs/BHAs), and how well aftercare is followed also play a role. Using SPF over the treated area once healed will help preserve your results for longer.
SPMU can be corrected or adjusted at a top-up, and will fade naturally over time. Laser removal or saline removal is possible if needed, though this is a separate process and not one that we offer currently. This is one of the reasons a thorough consultation and careful shape/colour discussion is so important before we begin.
Initial appointments typically take 2.5–3 hours. Top-up appointments are shorter, usually 1.5–2 hours. Please don't book anything immediately afterwards — it's important not to feel rushed.
I ask for at least 48 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may result in a booking fee being retained or charged, as last-minute gaps are difficult to fill. I appreciate your understanding — it helps me keep the diary running smoothly for everyone.
